Shelly began working in electronics as a child where he would repair and build his own HAM radios, and compete in Radiosport Competitions. Through his early adult years, Shelly completed his certifications with City and Guilds of London Institute, Radio Technology. This led him to be a Radio Technician where he designed and built the Voice of America Radio Station in Ekala, Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon. Subsequently Shelly joined CISIR (Ceylon Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research) where he worked on numerous research and development projects before emigrating to the United States in 1967.

Throughout the 70's and 80's, Shelly worked at Vanguard Electronics where he invented and patented the worlds smallest magnetic chip inductor. This breakthrough design brought the size of the smallest inductor down from a 1/4" inch cube, to less than a 1/8" inch cube, thus revolutionizing compact electronics, both for military and consumer electronics.

Shelly's operating philosophy of "outside of the box thinking", and a spirit of excellence, is what Mil-Spec Magnetics, Inc. was founded on, and what drives us today. We are constantly pushing the boundaries to achieve sustained "Profitability Through Excellence.".
