Ravi Gunewardena
V.P. of Operations

Ravi Gunewardena serves as Vice President of Operations at Mil-Spec Magnetics, bringing over 22 years of hands-on manufacturing experience across nearly every area of the company. As the grandson and son of co-founders Shelly and Tony Gunewardena, Ravi began his career early, working directly under his grandfather and learning the business from the ground up.

Ravi attended Mt. San Antonio College and pursued Business Management studies at DeVry University before choosing to fully immerse himself in the manufacturing environment at Mil-Spec Magnetics. Under the mentorship of Shelly Gunewardena, he gained extensive experience in manufacturing, engineering, operations, and business management.

His training includes small wire hand winding, machine winding, perfect layer winding, large copper foil winding, soldering, encapsulation, varnishing, laser marking, X-ray inspection, visual inspection, and dimensional verification. This broad technical background enables him to develop training programs and maintain consistent manufacturing standards across all departments.

In his current role, Ravi oversees operations, hiring, employee development, and workflow optimization to ensure the company consistently meets its quality and production objectives. He also oversees Mil-Spec Magnetics’ large copper foil transformer manufacturing operations supporting L3Harris shipboard power conditioning systems. Ravi additionally serves as the company’s in-house Certified IPC Specialist, training employees to J-STD-001 requirements and Mil-Spec Magnetics workmanship standards.

Ravi also played a key role in designing the layout of the company’s new 32,000 sq. ft. facility to maximize workflow efficiency by ensuring materials, personnel and products move the least amount possible throughout production. Large viewing windows throughout the engineering and production areas create an open and transparent manufacturing environment which allow customers to observe critical manufacturing processes firsthand, reinforcing the company’s commitment to quality, accountability, and operational excellence.

Driven by a strong commitment to quality and workmanship, Ravi believes Mil-Spec Magnetics is distinguished by its collective dedication to excellence at every level of the organization.

Outside of work, Ravi enjoys spending time with his wife and young son, playing piano, and working on classic cars and motorcycles.
